Turning Pages and Turning Heads: Engaging Strategies for Reading Success

Elementary teachers wanting to increase student engagement and accountability in reading should attend this session!

-Tips and tricks for keeping students engaged and activated during whole group instruction.
-Different ways for students to show understanding of enduring understandings and connections to the text.
-Strategies for classroom management and student engagement during stations (K-2) and reader’s workshop (3-5) in order to increase time on task.

Teachers will explore the research around the Concrete-Representational-Abstract (CRA) model and explore resources and ideas for applying CRA to multiple grade levels and standards. Teachers will also receive a deep-dive into the schema-based framework for word problem solving. They will be given opportunities to apply the frameworks to various types of word problems.

Transforming Testing Review

Room/grade level transformation to engage students for SOL testing review focusing on math and reading. Students will be grouped based on math level/reading level to ensure students needs are being met/challenged. Students will travel to all teachers to work on specific skills.
