What shall I do with a Plastic Bag?

Hook :  show a heaping pile of trash pile and do a QRT with it.  Give a journal prompt Will we ever be able to stop using plastics in our life?  Elaborate and explain your opinion.  Share some of those ideas with the class.   Teacher will read aloud, or listen to a preloaded audio book  entitled  One Plastic Bag by Miranda Paul.  This is uded  to introduce the lesson of the importance of trying to reduce reuse and recycle and how it all can start with just one person.  After the book  participants will do a teacher lead summary of the book.  Participare will then be challenged with a project to make a friendship bracelet out of plastic grocery bags ( one for themselves and one for someone else) and duct tape.   Lastly participants will work solo, pairs or groups of 4 depending on class and be asked  to come up with an original design of a recycling project that can be made out of an ordinary plastic grocery bags.  Soemthing that is useful and possibly desired by others.  Then they will share ideas  with  the teacher, make the prototype project  and present to the others in the class. ( depending upon age of students) Number of projects will be determined based upon number of participants in sessions.  Futher extension participants could make a  business plan to try to market their item.  This will incorporate STEM ideas into the classroom.
